RIO DE JANEIRO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Gremio midfielder Jailson converted a 97th-minute penalty as the defending Copa Libertadores champions secured a 2-1 victory over Monagas in Venezuela on Tuesday.

Ramiro gave the Brazilian side the lead in the 69th minute before defender Kannemann turned the ball into his own net in the 92nd minute.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty when Lucas Trejo clattered into midfielder Cicero. The game was delayed for several minutes as Cicero received medical treatment before Jailson sent goalkeeper Alain Baroja the wrong way with his spot kick.

The result at the Monumental stadium in Maturin, eastern Venezuela, lifted Gremio to the top of Group A with 11 points from five matches. Monagas remained last in the group, having accumulated just three points with one match remaining.

In other matches on Tuesday, Ecuador's Delfin beat Colombia's Atletico Nacional 1-0 at home, Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno won 1-0 at Defensor Sporting in Uruguay, and Chilean giants Colo-Colo defeated Bolivar 2-0 in Santiago.
