JAKARTA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's BMX team will take part in the Asian BMX Championship in Thailand this month.

The country's riders will compete in the tournament scheduled to be held in Chai Nat from May 26 - May 28, the manager of the team Budi Saputra said.

The manager revealed that the participation in the tournament was very important as it could be used to gauge the strength of opponents in Asia ahead of the Asian Games later this year.

"The strength of the BMX racers will be found out there, including the level of competitiveness. I hope our riders can use this moment in preparation for the Asian Games," he said.

The manager revealed that three male BMX racers will depart for Thailand on May 24. One female BMX racer will also take part in the championship, but the precise time of her departure has not been determined yet.

Indonesia has targeted approximately 20 gold medals at the Asian Games in the hopes of finishing 10th in the competition.

The 18th Asian Games is scheduled to be held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra.
