BRASILIA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian economy created 115,898 jobs in April, the best result for that month since 2013, the Ministry of Labor and Employment said on Friday.

This was the result of 1,305,225 new hires and 1,189,327 people being fired.

President Michel Temer, via social media, celebrated the upbeat result as part of the country's economic recovery, saying that "optimism has returned."

The official data showed that in the first four months of the year combined, Brazil has created 336,855 jobs.

Additionally, April saw job creation spread out over the eight sectors of the formal economy. The largest job creation came from the services sector with 64,237 jobs, followed by the transformation industry with 24,108 jobs and civil construction with 14,394 jobs.

From 2015 to 2017, the largest recession in the country's history, Brazil lost a total of 2.88 million jobs.
