TORONTO, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index ended higher on Friday to continue its recent streak of gains, as a rise in healthcare group offset a drop in the financial sector.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark S&P's/TSX Composite Index edged up 18.76 points, or 0.12 percent, to close the day at 16,162.31 points.
A total of 167 issues advanced and 76 declined.
The Canadian dollar fell 0.48 cent to 0.77.64 U.S. dollars.
The biggest gainer was TransCanada, which rose 7.6 points. Aurora Cannabis Inc surged 10 percent, while Canopy Growth Corp soared 8.8 percent, and Torex Gold Resources Inc jumped 3.9 percent.
Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp fell 3.1 percent and Element Fleet Management Corp declined 2.5 percent, while Trican Well Service Ltd. lost 2.3 percent.
