CARACAS, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's National Electoral Council (CNE) on Monday confirmed the victory of President Nicolas Maduro in Sunday's elections.

CNE Vice President Sandra Oblitas commented on the updated figures, saying that Maduro had secured re-election by gaining 6,190,612 votes.

Far behind in second place, Henri Falcon, the leader of the Progressive Advance party, obtained 1,917,036 votes. The candidate of the Hope for Change movement, Javier Bertucci, reached 988,761 votes, while the candidate from Popular Political Unity 89 (UPP89), Reinaldo Quijada, finished with 36,246 votes.

Oblitas said that this second update of electoral figures was calculated with 98.79 percent of the vote counted, with a total of 9,132,655 votes and an electoral turnout of 46.02 percent.

On Sunday, Falcon and Bertucci said that they did not recognize the results of the presidential elections.

Maduro has invited both men to take part in a "constructive" dialogue for the country and called on the CNE to audit 100 percent of all polling stations, once the counting has finished.
