Billiards World Cup opens in Vietnam's HCM City

HO CHI MINH CITY, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup kicked off here Friday, with the participation of roughly 150 prominent cueists from 17 countries and regions.

The cueists include defending champion Merckx Eddy from Belgium and his compatriot Caudron Frederic, who is now ranked the first in the world.

Among 18 Vietnamese cueists at the three-day tournament is 2017 Asian champion Nguyen Quoc Nguyen is currently ranked 15th in the world.

The tournament's total cash prize is 16,000 euros (18,700 U.S. dollars), including 10,000 euros (11,700 U.S. dollars) for the champion.
