RABAT, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan King Mohammed VI has given his instructions to set up a medical-surgical field hospital in Gaza, local media reported on Monday.

Citing a statement from the Moroccan Foreign Ministry, the daily Le Matin said this initiative is meant to provide the necessary medical care to the Palestinian civilians wounded during recent clashes in the Gaza Strip.

The setting up of this hospital, which comes during this holy month of Ramadan, is in line with the king's commitment to the Palestinian cause and shows effective solidarity with the Palestinian people, the same source said.

On May 14, at least 62 Palestinians were killed and thousands were wounded on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day, which coincided with the transfer of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

It was the highest Palestinian death toll in a single day since the beginning of the "Great March of Return," which has been ongoing in the besieged Gaza Strip since March 30.

Thousands of Palestinians gathered near the Gaza border with Israel, demanding their right of return to the villages and towns from which they were expelled in 1948. Enditem
