BRUSSELS, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The door to trade negotiations with the United States is closed for the moment, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said on Friday.

The U.S. decided on Thursday to impose steel and aluminum tariff for the European Union (EU), Canada and Mexico, and those tariffs will take effect from Friday.

"We were not at the negotiating table. Our offer was 'you take this gun away from us, we sit together as friends and equals and we discuss' and eventually this could lead to negotiations," Malmstrom told a news conference in Brussels.

"So we never got this. And now the door for the moment is closed," she added.
