GUIYANG, June 4 (Xinhua) -- A new lab, known as KLFAST, for China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, has opened in Pingtang County of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The lab, established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in January, will focus on promoting research and technological development of low frequency radio astronomy based on the FAST.

KLFAST will conduct research based on the international astronomical frontier questions and China's national strategic needs, according to a staff member with the lab.

The lab will also promote international cooperation on Square Kilometer Array (SKA), an international effort to build the world's largest radio telescope using arrays, according to an earlier report.
