KAMPALA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's top football club, KCCA FC is set to participate in a regional tournament to prepare for the remaining games of the ongoing 2018 Confederation of African Champions League.

Aggrey Ashaba, the club president told Xinhua on Monday that the team will participate in the 2018 Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) Club Championship to take place in Tanzania from June 29-July 12.

Ashaba said the regional tournament comes at the right time for his team because they needed as many games as possible for the players before they travel to Tunisia to face Group A leaders Esperance on July 17 in the African Champions League.

KCCA FC started their CAF Champions League Group campaign with a 1-0 loss away to Township Rollers in Botswana before shocking eight-time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt 2-0 in Kampala.

"I am happy that the club administration has accepted that we take part in the CECAFA Club Championship. This tournament will help me prepare the team well because it is during the period when we shall be off season in Uganda," KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi told Xinhua.

The regional tournament brings together league champions from all members of the CECAFA region, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Zanzibar and Somalia.
