SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Two policemen were killed and one wounded Tuesday after militants attacked their post inside a court complex in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The police post at district court complex was attacked in Pulwama district, about 32 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"In a predawn militant attack today, militants barged inside court complex here killing two policemen and wounding third one," a senior police official posted in Pulwama told Xinhua.

"The police post was set up inside the court complex to guard it."

Reports said militants snatched two service rifles of the slain policemen from the post during the attack.

The wounded policeman was removed to hospital, according to officials.

Following the attack contingents of police, paramilitary and army rushed to the spot to initiate searches for the militants.

"The area has been cordoned and searches are underway to apprehend the militants responsible for the attack," the official said.

So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack.

A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989. However, of late policemen too have been trained to fight them.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
