CAPE TOWN, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Tuesday.

-- The rand has been losing ground to the dollar over the past week, but the exchange rate would have been worse had Cyril Ramaphosa not won the African National Congress (ANC) presidency in a tightly-fought race with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma last year, according to Investec's chief economist Annabel Bishop.

On Monday at 16:21, the rand was trading at R13.08 to the greenback, up 0.17 percent on the day. (Fin24)

-- The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape said on Monday it's considering bringing another motion of no confidence in Premier Helen Zille in light of the Public Protector's findings regarding her controversial tweets about colonialism.

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has said that Zille's tweets were offensive and insensitive and has ordered the provincial parliament speaker to act against her within 30 days. (Eyewitness News)

-- The Sibanye-Stillwater mine has confirmed that three mineworkers died at the Ikamva shaft near Westonaria, southwest of Johannesburg.

The company said on Monday mine rescuers were searching for other two employees who are still believed to be trapped. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Enditem
