BERLIN, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Leipzig have signed Marcelo Saracchi from Argentinian outfit River Plate, both clubs confirmed on Tuesday.

The "Bulls" sealed their second summer signing after defender Marcelo Saracchi penned a five-year deal, which ties him to Leipzig until 2023.

"Marcelo Saracchi is a young, fast-paced left back, who proved himself with strong performances in his first season in Argentina's top flight. With his attitude and potential he fits perfectly to our philosophy," Leipzig's sporting director Ralf Rangnick said.

The 20-year-old defender played since September 2017 for River Plate where he made 22 appearances. Saracchi is currently part of Uruguay's Under-20 national team.

"I am happy to wear the jersey for Leipzig in the coming season. I have been following the development of the club since their promotion into the Bundesliga. I was impressed by how such a young team caused a stir in one of the best leagues in the world," Saracchi told the club's official homepage.

The "Bulls" completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on the 6th place of the standings and secure a ticket for next season's UEFA Europa League group stage. Enditem
