Macao's visitor arrivals up 5.2 pct in May

MACAO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Macao's visitor arrivals totalled over 2.7 million in May, up by 5.2 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said here Friday.

The latest report issued from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that visitor arrivals in May increased by 5.2 percent year-on-year, yet down by 8.7 percent month-to-month.

Overnight visitors (1.45 million) and same-day visitors (1.25 million) grew by 5.3 percent and 5.1 percent respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.3 days, and that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors stayed at 2.2 days and 0.2 day respectively.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 9.3 percent year-on-year to 1.86 million in May, primarily from Guangdong province, Hunan province and Fujian province. Visitors from Hong Kong SAR and China's Taiwan dropped by 2.1 percent and 5.6 percent respectively.

In the first five months of 2018, visitor arrivals to Macao totalled 14.21 million, up by 7.8 percent year-on-year. Overnight visitors (7.32 million) and same-day visitors (6.89 million) increased by 8.5 percent and 7.0 percent respectively year-on-year.
