UNITED NATIONS, June 23 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday commended China's contributions to UN peacekeeping efforts, saying Chinese police peacekeepers have displayed outstanding professional competence and ethnics.

China has adhered to "the highest standards" in its process of selecting and training its police peacekeepers, who have strictly abided by UN peacekeeping work rules and discipline requirements, Guterres said during his meeting with the Chinese delegation attending the second UN Chiefs of Police Summit.

He said the UN appreciates China's support for UN police peacekeepers' capacity building and expects China to play a greater role in peacekeeping.

Wang Xiaohong, executive vice public security minister and head of the delegation, said China will implement the consensus between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the secretary-general and continue to support the UN's capacity building of the peacekeeping police to play an even bigger role in promoting and maintaining world peace.

China is also ready to strengthen cooperation with the UN on security, drug control and counter-terrorism along the routes of the Belt and Road, Wang said.
