JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- An object suspected as the wreckage of a boat which capsized in Lake Toba of western Indonesia last week was discovered Sunday in the depth of about 490 meters, a transport ministry official disclosed.
At least 4 people were dead and over 192 others missing in the accident.
The object was found hundreds of meters from the scene of the incident, which took place on June 11 in the lake situated in North Sumatra province, spokesman of transport ministry Bambang Ervan said.
The spokesman noted that an underwater device was used in the search for the victims and the wreckage of Sinar Bangun boat.
"An image was detected. An object like a boat was found," he told Xinhua by phone.
The Sinar Bangun boat sank last Monday afternoon after leaving Simanindo port in Samosir district and was 1.61 km away from its destination of Tigaras Parapat of Simalungun district.
Search and rescue operation for the victims has been undertaken since then, according to national disaster management agency.
The Indonesian police has detained captain Situa Sagala, who is among the 18 people rescued, national police spokesman Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus has revealed.
Taking into a boat or ferry is a favorite way of transportation in Indonesia, where lack of compliance on safety standard frequently triggers incidents.
