BUDAPEST, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The 40-year-old Czech pilot Martin Sonka won the 2018 Budapest Red Bull Air Race World Championship here on Sunday, while Mika Brageot from France placed second and Matt Hall from Australia was third.

Sonka made the Budapest-run between the Margaret Bbridge and the Chain Bridge over the Danube in just 57,502 seconds, the Frenchman was just a bit slower with a result of 57,849 seconds whereas the Australian competitor flew a time of 58,163 seconds.

The fourth place went to Michael Goulian from the United States with 1:04:256 (with a seven-seconds penalty).

Thirteen pilots took part in Sunday's competition, which has been performed under low and grey skies, but enthusiastic crowds piled up over the two bridges and along the embankments of the Danube.

Matthias Dolderer of Germany was not able to continue to fly due to medical reasons and did not take part in the fourth Round of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Budapest. This means that he did not receive any World Championship points for this stop.

The Red Bull Air Race Championship's Budapest event was the fourth of eight races, the following tournament is going to take place in Moscow in August.
