9 killed, 4 injured in road accident in India

NEW DELHI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and four others injured Sunday after an auto-rickshaw collided with a passenger bus in southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The accident took place at Orvakal Mandal in Somarajupalli village in Kurnool district, about 310 km west of Amaravathi, the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

"Today in an accident an auto rickshaw carrying 13 passengers collided with a bus killing nine people and injuring four others," a police official said.

Following the accident locals and police carried out the rescue work, eyewitnesses said.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations into the accident.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has expressed grief over the deaths in the accident.
