Namibian team prepare for Para-athletics Grand Prix in Europe

WINDHOEK, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Namibian Paralympic team will take part in the Para-athletics Grand Prix to be held in Berlin, Germany from June 30 to July 2.

National Paralympic Committee of Namibia (NPC) Secretary General and head coach, Michael Hamukwaya on Monday said the Namibian Paralympic elite team, consisting of Ananias Shikongo with his guide runner Even Tjiviju and Paraathlete Johannes Nambala are currently in Enschede, the Netherlands at a training camp.

"The Sport on the Move Foundation connected us with different sport organizations in a town in Enschede. Namibia will train and use their facility free of charge in preparation for these Para-athletics Grand Prix in Germany," Hamukwaya said.

"The main aim of this exercise is to build new partnerships with these sport institutions where our athletes could benefit through high level preparation in the future and specially for Tokyo 2020," Hamukwaya added.

Meanwhile, Namibia's second team consisting mainly of 7 new young para-athletes will join the elite team in Berlin for the competition.

The young teams will also have the opportunity to get international classification in Berlin in preparation for other upcoming major championships.
