RIO DE JANEIRO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's state-controlled oil company Petrobras announced on Monday that production had begun in the Tartaruga Verde (Green Turtle) field.

The field is located in the deep waters of the Campos Basin, off Brazil's southeastern coast. Production began on last by means of a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

According to Petrobras, the FPSO is located "about 127 kilometers off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of 765 meters, with a capacity to process daily up to 150,000 barrels of oil, 3.5 million cubic meters of gas and 5 million cubic meters of compressed gas."

The Tartaruga Verde field has good quality oil and is located the famed post-salt area, at a water depth ranging from 700 to 1,300 meters and with reservoirs at a depth of 3,000 meters, according to Petrobras.

The field consists of two reservoirs, Tartaruga Verde, owned wholly by Petrobras, and Tartaruga Mestica, a joint reservoir between the Brazilian federal government, represented by Pre-Sal Petroleo SA (PPSA), with 30.65 percent interest and Petrobras with 69.35 percent interest. All of the production will be offloaded by the FPSO.

"This is the second platform to start operations this year and will contribute to the increase of Petrobras' production under the 2018-2022 Business and Management Plan," Petrobras said.
