KAMPALA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- At least five people including two children drowned on Tuesday after the boat they were traveling in capsized in the western Ugandan district of Rubanda, a police spokesperson said.

Patrick Onyango, Uganda's deputy police spokesperson, said in a statement that three women and two babies of Kyenyi parish, Muko sub-county died after the boat they were travelling capsized on Lake Bunyonyi.

"They were using the local boat from Hamukaka landing village crossing to Karambo village where they always cultivate. But when they reached the middle of the lake, because of much wind, the water waves made the boat capsize and all the five drowned," said Onyango.

He said only one body has been recovered as the search of the other bodies continues.

It is believed that the deceased were not wearing life jackets when travelling on water. Enditem
