ALGIERS, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Foreign and local experts and officials will draw up the best strategy to outline the pathway of transforming Algerian capital Algiers into a smart city.

The solutions will be discussed at the the first Global Technology and Investment Summit on Wednesday and Thursday.

Riad Hartani, organizer of Algiers smart city project, told Xinhua that the conference is a way to address some of the challenges relating to smart city projects, such as high-level dependency and a lack of confidence in developing advanced technology.

He said experts attending the conference will ultimately help the new generation to gain confidence to become high-tech champions.

The smart city project aims at optimizing the management of the city to improve the quality of life for its citizens.

It requires direct involvement of various stakeholders, including transport, energy, urban planning, water, security, health and logistics.

Information technology would be a key part of the smart city design by taking advantage of the city's databases to optimize the sharing of data between various departments of the city.

Start-ups established by high-tech graduates are key elements in the Algiers Smart City project, as they will offer solutions to the effective management of the city through green projects.
