CHANGCHUN, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A medical team of six on Friday headed to Samoa in the south Pacific Ocean.

The team from the First Bethune Hospital of Jilin University based in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, boarded on a plane Friday and will stay in Samoa for six months.

"It's an honor to be engaged in foreign aid," team leader Hong Xinyu said before boarding.

Sent by the National Health Commission of China, four batches of doctors will be sent to Samoa by turns, with each batch staying for six months.

Clinical exchanges, training, lectures and seminars will also be organized.

China started providing medical aid for Samoa in the 1980s, and some 100 doctors have been sent so far. China also donates drugs and equipment every year.
