Chinese adaption of "War Horse" back on stage in August

BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese adaption of the play "War Horse" will begin its fourth run on August 8 at the National Theatre of China in Beijing and then start a nationwide tour.

The play, based on a 1982 novel of the same name by British writer Michael Morpurgo, is about the friendship between a boy and a horse during WWI. It was initially staged in 2007 at the Royal National Theatre (NT) in London.

The Chinese adaption, an cooperation between the National Theatre of China and the NT, has run for 239 performances to over 200,000 people since its premiere in September 2015 in Beijing.

The Chinese one is the third non-English production of the play, which has been adapted in German and Dutch. An American film adaption of the play, directed by Steven Spielberg, was screened in 2011.
