Switzerland, Iran reaffirm support for Iran nuclear deal

GENEVA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Switzerland and Iran on Tuesday reaffirmed their support for the Road Map regarding the Iran nuclear issue agreed in 2016.

During the official visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Bern, the two countries also expressed their wish to deepen relations in spite of the current circumstances and push ahead with implementing the Road Map.

The talks between President Rouhani and a Swiss Federal Council delegation led by Swiss President Alain Berset focused on stabilizing the nuclear deal with Iran following the withdrawal of the USA and bilateral cooperation.

Swiss government said in a statement issued Tuesday that an agreement and two declarations of intent were signed following the talks.

In the statement Switzerland called on all sides to exercise restraint and not to jeopardize the nuclear deal with Iran (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) which is described as "an unparalleled success for international diplomacy".

With regard to the announced re-introduction of US sanctions, Switzerland said it will strive to ensure that transactions involving humanitarian goods will still be possible in the future.

The talks between the two leaders also addressed ways in which the two states could continue to exploit the potential of their bilateral relations in view of the announced re-introduction of U.S. sanctions, the Swiss government said.

At the invitation of the Swiss Federal Council, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday arrived in Switzerland for a two-day official visit.
