SOFIA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian government on Wednesday allocated 5.76 million BGN (3.44 million U.S. dollars) to purchase additional quantities of anti-hail rockets due to the complicated weather conditions, officials said.

Since the beginning of the year, the country's Hail Suppression Agency (HSA) has launched 9,785 rockets against 1,009 hail clouds, the government information service said in a press release.

For this reason, the HSA has 4,823 rockets left, the statement said.

According to the agency's website, the geographical location and diverse terrain of Bulgaria characterizes it as one of the most hail-stormy countries in Europe.

Bulgaria's hail suppression system was set up in 1968, and the HSA now protects an area of 17,000 sq km in the regions where hail damages have turned out to be the strongest, the website says.
