BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday called for strengthening cooperation with Myanmar to safeguard security and stability of the border area so as to benefit the two peoples.

Guo Shengkun, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Myanmar's Minister of Home Affairs Kyaw Swe, in China to attend the sixth China-Myanmar ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation.

Hailing the traditional "paukphaw" friendship between China and Myanmar, Guo said that China will deepen relations with its neighbors in accordance with the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness.

He called for more cooperation to combat cross-border crimes and ensure security of the projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, and promoting law enforcement cooperation along the Mekong River.

Kyaw Swe said that Myanmar stands ready to coordinate closely with China to advance all-round cooperation.
