6 firefighters injured in factory fire in Pakistan's Karachi

ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Xinhua) -- At least six firefighters were injured while battling a huge ablaze that broke out in a factory in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Thursday, local media reported.

According to the reports, several people inside the factory were also injured in the fire that erupted in a foam-manufacturing factory located in the Site area of Karachi, the provincial capital of southern Sindh province.

Rescue personnel, however, managed to safely evacuate everyone from the effected factory and nearby buildings. No loss of life has been reported so far, said local Urdu TV channel ARY News.

According to the area residents, the fire initially broke out at about 8:00 a.m. local time and the fire brigade had completely doused it before it erupted again later in the afternoon.

The police and ambulances have also reached the spot.

All the injured people were shifted to a nearby hospital, but their condition is not known yet.

A part of the factory building has collapsed in the incident while thick blanket of smoke engulfed the whole area, causing panic among the residents.

The cause of the fire is not known yet.
