BERLIN, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Newly promoted Nuremberg have signed defender Robert Bauer from league rivals Werder Bremen, the club confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.

Nuremberg have completed their fifth summer signing after Robert Bauer penned a loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent.

"Robert is a versatile player who can play in several positions. He gives our coach more options. Despite his young age he has already gained a lot of Bundesliga experience," Nuremberg's sporting director Andreas Bornemann said.

The 23-year-old right back, who received jersey No. 8, made 67 overall competitive appearances for Werder Bremen and provided two goals and four assists.

"I am glad that the long summer break is over for me and that I can finally get back to work. Nuremberg is a great club with enthusiastic supporters. I will do my utmost to help the club achieve its goals," Bauer said.

Nuremberg have sealed their eighth top-flight promotion, which is a Bundesliga record, after finishing on the second place of the Bundesliga 2 table last season.
