KAZAN, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Brazil defender Danilo will miss the rest of the World Cup after injuring his left ankle in training, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed.

In a statement, the CBF revealed that the Manchester City full-back suffered ligament damage and scans revealed he will not recover before the final on July 15.

Danilo was Brazil's first-choice right-back at the start of the tournament and played in their opening 1-1 draw with Switzerland.

But the 26-year-old has since been sidelined by a thigh injury, with Corinthians player Fagner having taken his place.

Danilo's setback is the latest in Brazil's full-back injury nightmare. In May, veteran right-back Dani Alves was ruled out of the World Cup after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. Left-backs Marcelo and Filipe Luis have also had injury concerns in recent weeks but have both returned to full fitness.

Brazil face Belgium in the World Cup quarterfinals in Kazan on Friday.
