HONG KONG, July 6 (Xinhua) -- China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is uniquely positioned as a leading center of international legal and dispute resolution services, Chief Executive of HKSAR Carrie Lam said Friday.

"Hong Kong is uniquely positioned as a deal maker and dispute resolver through the provision of our professional services, which are aligned with global best practices," Lam said at 2018 Colloquium on International Law in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's advantages include independent and well-respected judiciary, substantive pool of legal professionals and dedicated mediation legislation, as well as its location as a bridge between the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world.

Xie Feng, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, said at the colloquium that Hong Kong would play a more important role in serving cross-border investment and facilitating the legal exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

Anthony Neoh, chairman of Asian Academy of International Law, said Hong Kong had a natural advantage in the development of international law due to its strong culture of probity, well-established legal system, and the government's support for it to be an international arbitration center.

"As an international financial and commercial center, Hong Kong is a popular destination for multinational businesses. With the support of the Belt and Road Initiative, Hong Kong has confidence in being an international law center," said Neoh.

The colloquium, co-hosted by Asian Academy of International Law and the Chinese Society of International Law, brought together over 200 participants from around the world, including legal professionals, businessmen and government officials.
