Large stocks rally keeps Kenyan bourse on upward trend

NAIROBI, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The key index of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) sustained an upward trend on Friday to close the week high as large stocks rallied.

The NSE 20 Share Index was up 12.73 points to stand at 3,314.43 up from 3,301.70. On Thursday, the index rose 25 points.

Some of the shares that rose on Friday to lift the index included Safaricom (1 percent), Athi River Mining (10 percent) and Kenya Commercial Bank (3 percent), among others.

On the other hand, the All Share Index (NASI) closed at 172.95 from 172.99 while the NSE 25 Share index ended at 4,441.07 from 4,428.22 in the previous session.

Turnover declined 41 percent to 2.9 million U.S. dollars from 9.6 million shares, a decline from 14 million shares worth 4.9 dollars on Thursday.

Foreign investors represented 51 percent of total turnover with a net outflow of 1.4 million dollars. Enditem
