BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah started a state visit to China from Saturday to Tuesday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Since Kuwait became independent with the end of the British protectorate in 1961, the emir, now 89 years old, has served as minister of press and publications, foreign minister, deputy prime minister, first deputy prime minister and prime minister of Kuwait.
On Jan. 29th, 2006, Al-Sabah was sworn in as the 15th Emir of Kuwait.
The emir has visited China six times, namely in the years 1977, 1988, in August and December 1990, as well as in 2004 and 2009.
