RIO DE JANEIRO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Caio Luiz de Almeida Vieira de Mello took office as Brazil's new labor minister on Tuesday, succeeding Helton Yomura, who resigned last week.

The Federal Police are investigating frauds in the ministry's handling of trade unions.

The new minister said he will make a "technical, not political" administration and if necessary, there will be a "house cleaning" in the ministry.

"I will thoroughly examine the situation and measures will be taken with transparency," he said.

The new minister made no comment on the recently-approved labor reform. The reform was installed by the administration of President Michel Temer to boost employment in the country. However, unemployment figures remain at high levels.
