TIRANA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- 11 illegal migrants from the Middle East were detained in the last 24 hours in Korca and Lezha cities in Albania while trying to pass illegally through Albania on the road to European Union (EU) countries, police said Wednesday.
Lezha police informed that after investigative work they arrested two Albanian persons, who would offer help 7 migrants in exchange of money to cross border illegally.
The migrants were transported by car to the green border with Montenegro, from where they attempt to cross illegally to the neighboring country, to go further to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and then to the EU countries.
Meanwhile, 4 other migrants were detained Wednesday by the Border Police of Korca on the green border with Greece.
Albanian authorities have significantly added security measures to the green border and border crossings with Greece after the country's involvement in what is being described as the new road of migrants towards the EU countries.
