DAMASCUS, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian air defenses responded to a new Israeli attack on Syrian positions in the southern province of Quneitra on Wednesday, state news agency SANA reported.

The Israeli warplanes fired several rockets on some Syrian military positions in the vicinity of the town of Hadar, and Tal Kurum Jaba in the countryside of Quneitra, leaving damages only.

The report said the Syrian air defenses confronted the Israeli attack in the Qurs al-Nafl area in Quneitra.

The Israeli attack comes as the Syrian army on Wednesday bombarded areas under the control of Khalid Bin al-Walid group, which is allied with the Islamic State (IS), in southern Syria near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The Syrian side has always accused Israel of backing the ultra-radical groups in southern Syria.

On July 8, the Syrian state TV said that the Syrian air defenses hit an Israeli warplane during an Israeli airstrike on Syria's T-4 Air base in central Syria.

Israel has carried out many attacks on several military positions during the seven-year conflict, claiming it was targeting Iranian fighters and weapons.

But Syrian government officials repeatedly said that the targeted areas are Syrian bases and that the soldiers who got killed were Syrians.

This comes as the Syrian army is advancing in southern Syria in areas close to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, raising the ire of Israel, which fears a growing influence of the Iranian-backed fighters of Hezbollah in that area.
