BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares saw strong rebounds Thursday, with 5G-related stocks up significantly.

Despite opening lower, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 2.16 percent to close at 2,837.66 points, and the Shenzhen Component Index finished 2.77 percent higher at 9,273.61 points.

Trading recovered markedly. Total turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges stood at 415.7 billion yuan (66 billion U.S. dollars), up from 341 billion yuan on Wednesday.

Bouncing back from fluctuations last week, the market witnessed an across-the-board rally. Only around 100 shares fell, a small fraction of more than 3,000 public firms in the Chinese mainland.

Companies related to 5G technology saw their price surge, with the sub-index up 4.84 percent.

China's NASDAQ-style ChiNext Index jumped 3.3 percent to close at 1,614.63 points.
