Tokyo stocks rise in morning, domestic demand-based issues advance

TOKYO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday morning as investors sought out domestic demand-based issues amid concerns over ongoing international trade tensions.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 127.11 points, or 0.56 percent, from Friday to 22,724.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.62 points, or 0.90 percent, at 1,745.69.

Pulp and paper, rubber product and food-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.

Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
