HAVANA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The ideal way to honor the legacy of legendary revolutionary leader Fidel Castro is to promote Latin American unity, Bolivian President Evo Morales said on Tuesday.

"The best tribute to Fidel is the unity of Latin American countries. The best tribute is to not give up or doubt our revolutionary principles," Morales said, addressing the final day of the Sao Paulo Forum, being held in Havana.

Morales recalled meeting with Fidel at previous forums hosted by Cuba in 1993 and 2001, before he was elected president of Bolivia, and asking Fidel how to go about launching a revolution and where to acquire weapons.

According to Morales, Castro replied, "today revolutions aren't carried out with weapons, but with the people, as Hugo Chavez is doing in Venezuela."

Castro also advised him "not to fear the United States empire," said Morales.

The third and final day of the annual forum drew more than 600 representatives of regional progressive parties and movements, as well as the presidents of Cuba, Venezuela and El Salvador.

The annual meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum aims to build consensus on the future action for the left-wing political parties and organizations in Latin America.
