RIO DE JANEIRO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Forward Pedro struck in the 89th minute as Fluminense earned a 1-1 draw with Vasco da Gama in Brazil's Serie A championship on Thursday.
Pedro showed brilliant skill and speed to fend off several defenders and fire a cool finish past Vasco's Uruguayan goalkeeper Martin Silva.
Argentine striker Andres Rios had given Vasco the lead with a thumping volley just after the hour mark after goalkeeper Julio Cesar punched away an Henrique cross from the left.
The result at the San Januario Stadium left Vasco 11th and Fluminense 12th in the 20-team standings after 13 rounds.
Meanwhile, Cruzeiro rose to sixth by defeating Atletico Mineiro 3-1. Raniel and Robinho netted second-half goals for the hosts after their Uruguay international midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta cancelled out Christian Savio's opener.
