GHAZNI, Afghanistan, July 21 (Xinhua) -- At least two security personnel including a district police chief were killed as Taliban fighters stormed security checkpoints in Rashidan district of Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Saturday, provincial police chief Farid Ahmad Mashal said.

"A group of Taliban rebels stormed security checkpoints in Rashidan district early today morning to overcome the district headquarters but their conspiracy has been foiled and the attack repulsed. But unfortunately two police including the district police chief lost their lives in the firefight," Mashal told Xinhua.

The official said the Taliban fighters fled after suffering "huge casualties."

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Majahid, who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media, confirmed the clash, saying the militant group has gained ground and inflicted casualties on security personnel.
