5.7-magnitude quake hits southern Iran, no casualties reported

TEHRAN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.7 in magnitude shook Roydar city in Iran's southern Hormozgan province on Sunday morning, Iran's Seismological Center reported.

The epicenter of the tremor, which took place at 09:37 a.m. local time (0507 GMT), was determined at the depth of 8 km, 27.622 degrees north latitude and 54.960 degrees east longitude.

There were no reports of casualties or damages during the first hours after the earthquake, according to Tasnim news agency.

The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring province of Fars.

Hormozgan province is located to the north coast of the Persian Gulf, surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
