AMMAN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Jordan gave approval to the UN to allow the entry of 800 Syrians into Jordan to be later resettled in the UK, Germany and Canada.

The permission has been granted after Britain, Germany and Canada submitted after receiving written pledges to resettle the 800 Syrians due to risks to their lives, a statement by the foreign ministry a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua indicated.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Kayed said in the statement, which was released on Sunday, that the UN's request had been approved for purely humanitarian reasons.

These Syrians who used to work in civil defence in rebel-held regions have fled their war-torn country following attacks by the Syrian government's forces.

He added that these Syrians will stay in a closed area in Jordan for a period of time not exceeding three months until resettled in the three Western countries as London, Berlin and Ottawa pledged.

No decision has been made yet about where the Syrians will be resettled, according to ministry officials.

Jordan, which is home to 1.3 million Syrian refugees, has closed its borders recently after hundreds of thousands of Syrians flocked to the borders with Jordan.
