TEHRAN, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran striker Reza Ghoochannejhad has joined Apoel Nicosia, Tehran Times daily reported on Monday.
The 31-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the Cypriot football team. Further details of the contract have not been released.
Ghoochannejhad started his playing career in SC Heerenveen in 2005 and also played in Belgium clubs Sint-Truiden and Standard Liege. He scored 27 goals in 67 matches for SC Heerenveen.
Ghoochannejhad was a member of the Iranian national football team in the 2018 World Cup but spent the entire tournament as an unused substitute.
He announced his retirement from international football soon after the World Cup.
