PARIS, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho made a move to promoted Premier League side Wolves after spending five years in Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, both clubs announced on Tuesday.

Moutinho has put his pen to paper on a two-year deal with Wolves following a reported five-million-pound transfer.

Since joining Monaco in 2013 from Porto, 31-year-old Moutinho played 221 games in five seasons, scoring 12 goals and delivering 33 assists. He was a part of the squad winning Ligue 1 title in 2017.

"During these five seasons in Monaco, Joao Moutinho was a major player in the club's return to the forefront. Through his performances, he has contributed to the outstanding sporting results of recent seasons thanks to his professionalism and his rigor, and helped our young players in their progression," said Vadim Vasilyev, Vice President of Monaco.

Moutinho is the third highest appearance maker for Portugal with 113 caps and played his part in Portugal's 2016 European Championship success. He made three appearances at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Moutinho will play alongside Portuguese international goalkeeper Rui Patricio in the new season for Wolves, who made a return to the top-flight league after six years. Enditem
