BERLIN, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Mercedes-Benz will build two new battery factories near its headquarters in Germany, the Stuttgart-based carmaker announced on Wednesday.

According to a company statement, the two battery factories will be in the city of Sindelfingen and in the district Untertuerkheim, through which the company expects to expand its battery manufacturing capabilities.

Thus, the global battery production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars grows to eight factories on three continents, with five factories in Germany, the statement read.

Mercedes-Benz Cars is investing more than one billion euros in a global battery production network within the worldwide production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

"We are working hard to implement our electrical offensive and are consistently expanding our global battery production network," said Markus Schaefer, member of the board of management.

"In our network, we are optimally positioned for the flexible and efficient production of vehicles with internal combustion engines and electric vehicles," Schaefer added.
