NAIROBI, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will host the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations women's volleyball tournament in August, officials announced on Thursday.

Waithaka Kioni, the President of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) said the event will be held between Aug 24 and Sept 3 in Nairobi after the country was granted the rights to host the event by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) last year.

"Owing to our track record of holding successful continental events in the past and the experience gathered in hosting big events, I can say without fear that we shall host a successful tournament," Kioni told journalists in Nairobi.

The team is preparing to travel to Japan for the FIVB Women's World Championships that will be held from Sept 29 to Oct 20.

Kenya also bid to host the U-21 men's tournament, but CAVB only awarded the East African nation the rights to host the women's tournament.

Kioni also announced that the country will play host to the Africa Beach Volleyball Championship in August and will also send a team to the inaugural East Africa Community Games during the same month.

Charles Nyaberi, the Vice-President of KVF, said eight teams have already confirmed participation for the U-20 event. Enditem
