MADRID, July 26 (Xinhua) -- More than one million Spanish households have all their members unemployed, according to the Inquest into the Active Population (EPA) published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to the data, the number of Spanish households with all their members unemployed fell by 16,200 in the second quarter of this year, but the total number still surpasses one million, 1,113,100.

According to the EPA, the number of unemployed people in Spain fell by 306,000 between April and June to a total of 3,490,100. The country's unemployment rate stood at 15.28 percent in the second quarter of the year.

Minister of Labor, Migration and Social Security Magdalena Valerio stressed that the fall in unemployment in the second quarter was "great news", although she said there was still work to be done in order to improve quality and reduce temporary jobs.

Meanwhile, the number of employed people stood at 19.3 million, rising by 469,900 people during the second quarter of the year. This is the highest figure of employed people since the end of 2008, when the financial crisis started.

The number of employed people especially rose in the services sector, which in the summer period hires more people to face demand. Between April and June, the number of people working in the sector increased by 371,400. Enditem
