CAIRO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Egypt and the Arab League (AL) condemned on Thursday an attack on Saudi oil tankers carried out by Yemen's Houthis in the Red Sea.
The attack is a flagrant violation of international conventions and laws, which stipulates freedom of navigation in international waterways, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It warned that such an attack affects international trade movement.
Meanwhile, AL Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit condemned the Houthi attack on Thursday, stressing that such an attack poses a threat to the world trade movement and increases security risks in this strategic region.
On Wednesday, the Iran-backed Houthi group attacked two giant Saudi oil tankers passing through the strait of Bab el-Mandeb in the Red Sea. The attack caused minor damage to one of the two tankers.
After the attack, Saudi Arabia announced the suspension of all crude oil shipments through the strait until further notice.
The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in Yemen's conflict in March 2015 to roll back Houthi rebels and reinstate exiled government of President Abdu-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
