DAMASCUS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian army has secured the entire borderline with Israeli-occupied Golan Heights following battles in southern Syria, the War Media, media wing of the Syrian army and its allies, said Monday.

The army took control over the areas near the Lebanese area of Shebaa all the way to the town of Marieh in the southern corner near the Golan Heights and the Jordanian border, according to the report.

The progress came as the Syrian army has advanced in areas under the control of the Islamic State (IS) in the western countryside of Daraa.

On Monday, the Syrian forces captured towns, including Marieh in the Yarmouk basin area in the western countryside of Daraa, following battles with IS.

The Syrian army has been on a wide-scale campaign in southern Syria since late last month.

The army has captured over 90 percent of Daraa and almost the entire province of Quneitra near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after the rebels agreed to evacuate towards rebel-held areas in northern Syria under a Russian-backed deal.

The deal over Quneitra came in the light of the recent summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who met in Finland's capital Helsinki and discussed the situation in Syria, mainly the southern region near the Golan Heights.
